The Best Burgers in W1: Six Places in Soho, Mayfair and Fitzrovia, With Hours Checked
The best burgers in W1 range from smashed patties served until 2.30am to a Mayfair dining room where the burger shares the menu with whole lobsters. We picked six places across Soho, Fitzrovia, Mayfair and Oxford Circus and checked every address and opening time against the restaurant's own website on 31 October 2026, because burger chains in central London open, move and close often. One well-known name, MEATliquor W1, has moved from its old Welbeck Street site to Margaret Street, and Patty&Bun now only serves in W1 inside a crazy golf venue.

1. Honest Burgers: Meard Street, Brewer Street and Market Place
Honest started in Brixton and now has three W1 sites, all within a few minutes of each other. It makes British burgers from fresh beef that is chopped rather than minced, served with its rosemary-salted chips, and runs beef, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options. Meard Street (4a Meard St, W1F 0EF) is on a narrow Georgian lane off Wardour Street, with a small outside area; it opens 11am to 10pm Sunday to Wednesday and 11am to 11pm Thursday to Saturday, and is dog-friendly inside. Brewer Street (84 Brewer St, W1F 9UB), 0.1 miles from Piccadilly Circus, stays open later, until 11.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Market Place (4 Market Pl, W1W 8AD) is the one to use when shopping on Oxford Street. Honest says the beef at its Meard Street site is halal.
2. Bleecker, Old Compton Street
Bleecker began as a street food truck and built its reputation on simple, beef-forward burgers with few toppings. The Soho branch at 33 Old Compton Street, W1D 5JU, opens 11am to 11.30pm Monday to Thursday, 11am to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, and 11am to 10.30pm on Sundays. Bleecker says the beef at this branch is halal. Its Baker Street branch is just outside W1, in NW1.
3. MEATliquor W1, Margaret Street
MEATliquor is the late-night option: dark, loud, with DJs and cocktails, serving smashed patties, fried chicken and a plant-based menu. The W1 branch is now at 37-38 Margaret Street, W1G 0JF, close to Oxford Circus, so ignore older listings for Welbeck Street. Its website gives kitchen hours of noon to 2.30am every day and the bar until 3am, which makes it the latest place in W1 for a proper burger. The branch says kids and dogs are welcome; it gets rowdy late at night.
4. Burger & Lobster, Mayfair, Bond Street and Oxford Circus
Burger & Lobster opened its first restaurant in Mayfair in 2011 with a short menu built around a burger, a whole lobster and a lobster roll. It is a proper sit-down restaurant and takes bookings. The original is at 29 Clarges Street, W1J 7EF, off Piccadilly near Green Park (noon to 10pm Sunday to Thursday, until 11pm Friday and Saturday). There are two more W1 branches: 26 Binney Street, W1K 5BN, near Selfridges and Bond Street station, and 6 Little Portland Street, W1W 7JE, just north of Oxford Circus, which closes earlier, at 9pm Sunday to Thursday. All three run an oyster happy hour on weekdays from 3pm to 6pm.
5. Shake Shack, Argyll Street
The New York chain's Oxford Street branch is at 10 Argyll Street, W1F 7TQ, between Oxford Circus and Carnaby Street, on the same street as the London Palladium. It is counter service, fast and busy, with crinkle-cut fries and frozen custard shakes, and it is open late: 11am to midnight Monday to Thursday, until 12.30am on Fridays and Saturdays, and 11am to 11pm on Sundays. Breakfast is not served at this branch.
6. Patty&Bun at Swingers, John Prince's Street
Patty&Bun built its name in Marylebone and Soho, but its own restaurants are now outside W1. You can still get its burgers in W1 at Swingers, the crazy golf and bar venue at 15 John Prince's Street, W1G 0AB, just off Oxford Circus, where Patty&Bun runs the kitchen. Treat it as a night out with golf rather than a burger restaurant; Swingers sets its own entry rules and booking.
How we chose
We included places with a W1 postcode, a burger at the centre of the menu, and current hours on their own website. We left out branches we could not confirm were still open. Prices change often, so we have not quoted them; check the menu links on each site before you go.
