Darjeeling Express, Soho
Asma Khan has moved Darjeeling Express for the fourth time, trading its long-standing Kingly Court home for a much larger site on Rupert Street, on the stretch between Soho and Chinatown. The new dining room spreads across two floors with more than 150 covers, adding outdoor seating, a private dining room and a bigger kitchen, while keeping the all-female team that made the restaurant's name.
The cooking still leads with Bengali home food, from kosha mangsho and prawn malaikari to methi chicken and Calcutta kati rolls, now served from lunch right through to late-night dining. The relocation was supported by landlord Shaftesbury Capital. Source: Restaurant.
Go Greek Yogurt, Mayfair
The Los Angeles frozen-yoghurt brand Go Greek Yogurt has opened its first UK shop on Mayfair's South Molton Street, its European debut after more than 20 sites across the US and the Middle East. The 620 sq ft unit at 36 South Molton Street pairs a made-to-order Greek yoghurt bar with self-serve frozen yoghurt machines and both indoor and outdoor seating.
Founded in 2012 by Tanja Murgel-Subotic with her husband David Subotic and business partner Jonathan Williams, the menu runs to sweet and savoury bowls, smoothies and a long list of toppings, built around a Mediterranean idea of functional, nutrient-dense food. Source: Restaurant.
Cup of Joy, Marylebone
Istanbul coffee house Cup of Joy is opening its first site outside Turkey on Marylebone's Blandford Street, taking 28 Blandford Street, W1U 4BZ, opposite the restaurant Jikoni. Founded in the Bebek neighbourhood in 2013 and now eight shops strong across Turkey, it leans on a signature Arabica blend sourced from El Salvador, Brazil and Colombia, served in handmade ceramics by owner Gökçe Kalyoncu.
The interiors come from Benni Allen of Ebba Architects, drawing on Istanbul's café culture, and the all-day menu adds signature bagels, eggs Istanbul, pistachio porridge and pastries alongside the coffee. Source: Time Out.
