The Best Breakfast in W1: Five Places, From The Wolseley on Piccadilly to Bacon Naan in Carnaby

The best breakfast in W1 starts early. The Wolseley on Piccadilly and Granger & Co on Marylebone High Street both open at 7am on weekdays, Fischer’s follows at 7.30am, and Dishoom’s Carnaby branch serves its bacon naan rolls from 8am. For a cheaper plate of pancakes, The Breakfast Club has three cafés in Soho. Here are five picks for different mornings, with hours checked on each restaurant’s own website in October 2026.

1. The Wolseley, Piccadilly

The Wolseley is the W1 breakfast institution, a grand European-style café in a former car showroom at 160 Piccadilly, W1J 9EB, next to the Ritz. It has been serving breakfast for more than twenty years, from a Full English or grilled kippers to freshly baked Viennoiserie. Breakfast runs from 7am to 11.30am Monday to Friday and from 8am to 11.30am at weekends. Book through its website or on 020 7499 6996; weekday breakfast tables are easier to get than dinner, which makes it the most accessible way into a famous room. It is where Mayfair holds its breakfast meetings, so expect suits before 9am.

2. Granger & Co, Marylebone High Street

Bill Granger’s Australian-style all-day restaurant at 105 Marylebone High Street, W1U 4RS, opens at 7am Monday to Saturday and 8am on Sunday, with breakfast served until noon. It is best known for ricotta hotcakes and scrambled eggs, and the room is bright and relaxed. Bookings are only taken from 5pm, so breakfast is walk-in, and the restaurant says it always has room for walk-ins. Arrive before 10am at the weekend to avoid a wait.

3. Fischer’s, Marylebone High Street

A few doors down at number 50, Fischer’s is a Viennese café with dark panelling and a menu of eggs, pastries and central European dishes. It opens at 7.30am Monday to Friday and 9am on Saturday and Sunday. It is the obvious start to a morning at the Wallace Collection on Manchester Square, which opens at 10am. Book on 020 7466 5501.

4. Dishoom Carnaby, Kingly Street

Dishoom’s Carnaby branch at 22 Kingly Street, W1B 5QP, a couple of minutes from Oxford Circus, opens at 8am Monday to Friday and 9am on Saturday and Sunday. Breakfast is the best-value way to eat here: the bacon naan roll is the famous order, and the spicy keema per eedu (eggs with spiced mince) is the more substantial one. Dinner queues at Dishoom are notorious; breakfast is usually much calmer.

5. The Breakfast Club, Soho

The Breakfast Club is a small London chain of cafés, and its three Soho branches are the cheapest options here. All open at 7.30am every day: 18 Old Compton Street, W1D 4TN; 11 Berwick Street, W1F 0PL; and 33 D’Arblay Street, W1F 8EU. They close mid-afternoon, at 3pm on weekdays and 4pm or 5pm at weekends depending on the branch. The menu is fry-ups, pancakes and breakfast burritos, and at the weekend there will usually be a queue.
