1. Napoli on the Road, Wardour Street
Michele Pascarella started Napoli on the Road in 2016 with a three-wheeled Ape Piaggio van fitted with a wood-fired oven, selling pizza at London street markets. It now has three restaurants, in Chiswick, Richmond and Soho, and a shelf of awards from 50 Top Pizza, the guide that ranks pizzerias worldwide: World’s No.1 Pizzeria in 2026, and Europe’s No.1 Pizzeria in 2024, 2025 and 2026. Pascarella was named the guide’s Best Pizza Maker in the World in 2023, and his Ricordi d’Infanzia won Best Pizza in the World in 2025.
The Soho restaurant at 140 Wardour Street has its own menu and takes reservations through SevenRooms; there is also a tasting menu. With a world title this recent, tables go fast, so book rather than walking up on a Friday night. If you can only try one pizza, the award-winning Ricordi d’Infanzia is the obvious order.
2. Fatto a Mano, Dean Street
Fatto a Mano has pizzerias in Brighton, Hove and London, including Soho at 95-97 Dean Street, a short walk from Tottenham Court Road station. Its dough is made fresh every day from Italian 00 flour, salt, water and yeast, and proved for at least 24 hours, which keeps the bases light. Toppings mix Italian ingredients with produce from small British suppliers, and the specials change regularly. It opens from 12pm daily: until 10pm Monday to Thursday, 10.30pm on Friday and Saturday and 9.30pm on Sunday, with booking, collection and delivery. It also has a branch on Baker Street, handy for Marylebone.
3. Pizza Pilgrims, Dean Street and Kingly Street
Pizza Pilgrims is the chain that grew out of a Soho market van, and its W1 branches are at 11 Dean Street in Soho and 11 Kingly Street off Carnaby Street. Bases are Neapolitan style and the menu is short and dependable, with vegan and halal options. The big advantage is flexibility: you can book, but the chain says walk-ins are always available, which makes it the easiest of the five for a spontaneous lunch or a group that cannot plan ahead. The Kingly Street branch takes large party bookings.
4. Santa Maria, Fitzrovia
Santa Maria started on St Mary’s Road in Ealing and now has several London pizzerias making traditional Neapolitan pizza. The Fitzrovia branch is at 160 New Cavendish Street, at the quieter northern end of W1 between Great Portland Street and Marylebone. It opens every day from 11.30am to 10.30pm, which makes it one of the more useful early-lunch options in the area, and you can book on its website. It suits a weekday lunch near the offices of Fitzrovia.
5. Delfino, Mount Street, Mayfair
Delfino is the Mayfair choice: a long-standing Italian on Mount Street, the smart shopping street between Grosvenor Square and Park Lane, where pizzas sit alongside pasta and Italian wines. It is at 121a Mount Street, W1K 3NW, and opens Monday to Saturday from 12pm to 10.30pm; it is closed on Sundays. In a part of W1 where a quick, unfussy dinner can be hard to find, it is the neighbourhood answer. Book on 020 7499 1256.
