The Best Seafood Restaurants in W1: Seven Picks, From Mayfair Oyster Bars to Marylebone Fish and Chips
The best seafood restaurants in W1 run from two of London's oldest oyster bars, Scott's on Mount Street and Bentley's off Regent Street, to a fishmonger with a dining room in Marylebone and a fish and chip shop that has been frying on Marylebone Lane since 1914. We picked seven and checked every address, opening time and price quoted here against the restaurant's own website in October 2026. All seven are inside the W1 postcode, which rules out a few famous names: J Sheekey is in WC2 and Wiltons is in SW1.
For oysters and a sense of occasion: Scott's, Mount Street, and Bentley's, Swallow Street.
Best value sit-down lunch: Fishworks Marylebone, two courses for £29.
Fish and chips: Golden Hind, Marylebone Lane, and Poppies, Old Compton Street.
Walk-ins welcome: Randall & Aubin holds back tables every day.
1. Scott's, Mayfair
20 Mount Street, W1K 2HE. Scott's has been serving British fish and shellfish since 1851 and is the restaurant most Londoners picture when they think of a grand Mayfair seafood room: oysters, crab, Dover sole and a long Chablis list, with a terrace on Mount Street. It is open from noon every day, until 9.15pm Monday to Wednesday, 10pm Thursday to Saturday and 9pm on Sunday. Two rules to know before booking: every reservation is for indoor dining, with the terrace allocated to the oldest requests first and a £75 a head minimum spend outside; and since May 2025, children under six are only allowed at weekend, bank holiday and school holiday lunches. Since May 2026, only assistance dogs are allowed inside.
2. Bentley's Oyster Bar & Grill, Mayfair
11 to 15 Swallow Street, W1B 4DG. Just off Regent Street and a few minutes from Piccadilly Circus, Bentley's has been open since 1916 and is now run by chef patron Richard Corrigan. Its menus promise "the largest selection of Native and Rock Oysters", and the classics are the reason to go: Dover sole meunière, lobster thermidor, fish stew and fish and chips. Sit at the oyster bar for a quick plate and a glass, or in the Grill Room, which serves a daily set menu at lunch (noon to 3pm) and pre-theatre (4.30pm to 6pm).
3. Sexy Fish, Mayfair
Berkeley Square House, Berkeley Square, W1J 6BR. The opposite of an old-school oyster bar. Sexy Fish is loud, glamorous and open late: noon to 1am Monday to Saturday and noon to midnight on Sunday. The menu leans Asian, with sushi, sashimi and seafood alongside the cocktails, and the room is as much the point as the food. Book for a celebration or a late dinner after the theatre rather than a quiet meal. Parties of 20 or more go through the private dining team.
4. Randall & Aubin, Soho
14 to 16 Brewer Street, W1F 0SQ. Thirty years old and still one of the liveliest rooms in Soho. Marble counters, a menu built on classic French cooking, fruits de mer platters and a daily specials board that changes with what the suppliers bring in. It is good for solo diners and pre-theatre meals, and it holds back tables for walk-ins every day, which makes it the easiest place on this list to get into at short notice. If you are building a Soho evening around it, our best restaurants in Soho page has more ideas nearby.
5. Fishworks, Marylebone
89 Marylebone High Street. Half restaurant, half fishmonger: there is a counter at the front where locals buy fish to cook at home, and a dining room behind. It is the best-value sit-down seafood meal on this list at lunchtime, with a two-course lunch menu at £29, recently including crispy peppered squid, Brixham fish soup, sea bream and a soft shell crab burger. It is open daily from noon to 10.30pm, and the nearest stations are Baker Street and Regent's Park. Our Marylebone guide covers the rest of the high street.
6. Golden Hind, Marylebone
71a to 73 Marylebone Lane, W1U 2PN. A fish and chip restaurant that has been trading on Marylebone Lane since 1914. It is a sit-down restaurant rather than just a takeaway counter, and the classic order is fish, chips and mushy peas. It opens for lunch from noon to 3.30pm and for dinner from 6pm to 10.30pm Monday to Saturday, and from noon to 7.30pm on Sunday. Call ahead for larger groups.
7. Poppies, Soho
55 to 59 Old Compton Street, W1D 6HW. The Soho branch of the East End fish and chip group, with a long menu that goes well beyond cod and haddock. Every meal comes with chips and homemade tartare sauce. At the time of writing a regular cod and chips was £21.99 and haddock £20.99, with wild halibut, skate and whole lemon sole for £26.50 to £26.95, and a children's menu at £9.95. It is a useful choice for families and for groups who want something simpler and cheaper than the Mayfair oyster bars.
