The Best Steak Restaurants in W1: Seven Picks, From a Soho Pub Grill to a Park Lane Steakhouse
The best steak restaurants in W1 range from a wood-fired grill room above a Soho pub to a Wolfgang Puck steakhouse on Park Lane. Three of them are on the 2026 World's 101 Best Steak Restaurants list, and a fourth was ranked the year before. We picked seven and checked every address against the restaurant's own website or listing in October 2026. All seven are inside the W1 postcode; the London steakhouses that top the world list, Ibai in Farringdon and Hawksmoor St Pancras, are not.
On the 2026 world list: The Devonshire (45th), Zoilo (96th), The Guinea Grill (99th).
Dry-aged on site: Goodman, Maddox Street, and The Devonshire, Denman Street.
British beef and seafood: Hawksmoor Air Street, by Piccadilly Circus.
Hotel grandeur: CUT at 45 Park Lane and 34 Mayfair on Grosvenor Square.

1. The Devonshire
17 Denman Street, W1D 7HW. A short walk from Piccadilly Circus, The Devonshire is a proper pub on the ground floor with the serious cooking upstairs in the Grill Room, built around a wood-ember fire. It was opened by publican Oisin Rogers and Charlie Carroll, the founder of Flat Iron, with chef Ashley Palmer-Watts, formerly of The Fat Duck, running the grill. The beef is Scottish, dry-aged and butchered on site. It came 45th on the 2026 World's 101 Best Steak Restaurants list, the highest W1 entry. Book well ahead for the Grill Room.
2. Hawksmoor Air Street
5a Air Street, W1J 0AD. Hawksmoor built its name on dry-aged steak from British cattle cooked over charcoal, and the Air Street branch, just off Regent Street by Piccadilly Circus, gives seafood equal billing, with fish from Brixham. It was 23rd on the 2025 world list. The group's St Pancras branch ranked higher in 2026, but it is outside W1. Steaks are sold by weight from a board, so ask how big a cut you are ordering.
3. Goodman Mayfair
24-26 Maddox Street, W1S 1QH. A New York-style steakhouse a few minutes from Oxford Circus. Every steak on the blackboard is dry-aged on site and cooked over charcoal; the menu runs from rib-eye, sirloin and fillet to porterhouse and T-bone, with most of the beef American corn-fed and some British and Wagyu cuts alongside. It is closed on Sundays.
4. The Guinea Grill
30 Bruton Place, W1J 6NL. A small Young's pub tucked into a mews behind Berkeley Square, with a grill room at the back known for steak and pies. Oisin Rogers ran it before opening The Devonshire. It is the most traditional steak dinner in Mayfair, and it took 99th place on the 2026 world list.
5. Zoilo
9 Duke Street, W1U. Chef Diego Jacquet's Argentinian restaurant sits just down from the side entrance to Selfridges and has been cooking for well over a decade. The menu changes with the seasons and takes in regional dishes from across Argentina alongside grilled steak, with Argentinian wines to match. It was 96th on the 2026 world list.
6. 34 Mayfair
34 Grosvenor Square, W1K 2HD. Caprice Holdings, the group behind The Ivy and Scott's, opened 34 on the corner of Grosvenor Square and South Audley Street in 2011. Meat cooked on a parrilla grill is the centre of the menu, and the room is a dressed-up Mayfair dining room rather than a steakhouse in the brasserie mould.
7. CUT at 45 Park Lane
45 Park Lane, W1K 1PN. Wolfgang Puck's first restaurant in Europe, inside the Dorchester Collection's 45 Park Lane hotel, is modelled on his CUT steakhouse in Beverly Hills. Expect a choice of beef from several countries, including Wagyu, a polished hotel dining room and prices to match. It is the choice here for a client dinner or a big occasion.
Steak terms worth knowing
- Dry-aged: beef hung in a cold, controlled room for weeks before butchering, which concentrates the flavour. Goodman and The Devonshire do it on site.
- Sold by weight: large sharing cuts such as porterhouse and T-bone are often priced per 100g. The final bill depends on the cut you pick.
- Wagyu: a Japanese breed, also raised elsewhere, with heavy marbling. Usually served in small portions at a much higher price.
- Parrilla: the Argentinian open grill, the cooking method behind Zoilo and 34.
How to choose
- For the best steak in a pub: The Devonshire, or The Guinea Grill for something older and quieter.
- For a group: Hawksmoor Air Street, where the big sharing cuts and seafood suit a table of six.
- For Argentinian cooking: Zoilo in Marylebone.
- For a special occasion: CUT at 45 Park Lane or 34 Mayfair.
