The Best Vegan Restaurants in W1: Five Picks, From a Soho Original to Plant-First Cooking by Oxford Circus

The best vegan restaurants in W1 are fewer than you might expect for the middle of London, because several big names have gone: tibits closed its Mayfair and Bankside restaurants during the pandemic and Neat Burger's website is now a domain for sale. What remains is a strong five. Mildreds has served vegetarian and now vegan food on Lexington Street since 1988; Gauthier Soho is a fine-dining townhouse that went fully plant-based; Tendril cooks vegetables-first a minute from Oxford Circus; Bubala serves vegetarian Middle Eastern sharing plates; and Club Mexicana does vegan tacos in a converted church in Mayfair. We checked every address and the hours below on each restaurant's own website in October 2026.

1. Mildreds Soho

45 Lexington Street, W1F 9AN. The original Mildreds opened in Soho in 1988 and is the longest-running name on this list; it now has five London restaurants, but Lexington Street is the first. The menu is vegan and vegetarian, the room is relaxed, and it runs from breakfast through to late cocktails, which makes it the easiest choice for a group with mixed appetites. Hours are 9am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 10pm on Sunday; it is dog friendly, has outdoor seating and a private dining space, and serves a weekend brunch. Phone 020 7494 1634.

2. Gauthier Soho

21 Romilly Street, W1D 5AF. Alexis Gauthier's Soho townhouse restaurant now describes itself as a vegan restaurant. It is the place on this list for a special occasion, with a formal dining room, private dining rooms and seasonal menus such as a New Year's Eve menu. Dinner is served 5pm to 10pm Tuesday to Thursday and 5pm to 10.30pm on Friday and Saturday, with lunch on Saturday at 1pm; it is closed Sunday and Monday. Phone 020 7494 3111.

3. Tendril, Oxford Circus

5 Princes Street, W1B 2LQ. Tendril calls itself a "(mostly) vegan kitchen and bar", and its stated mission is to help London eat less meat by putting vegetables, not fake meat or heavily processed plant-based products, at the centre of the plate. It serves a set menu and an à la carte through the week, a late brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, and a changing list of vegan wines from small European producers alongside cocktails, kombuchas and drinking vinegars. It is open from 5pm on Mondays and for lunch and dinner Tuesday to Friday. For shoppers on Regent Street it is the best sit-down vegan meal within a few minutes' walk.

4. Bubala Soho

15 Poland Street, W1F 8PR. Bubala is a vegetarian restaurant cooking Middle Eastern-inspired mezze, and every menu comes in a vegan version: the lunch mezze, the à la carte and the "Bubala Knows Best" sharing menu that hands the ordering to the kitchen. It is the best pick for a group that wants to share lots of small plates, and for vegans dining with vegetarians. Hours are noon to 3pm and 5pm to 11pm Monday to Friday, noon to 11.30pm Saturday and noon to 10pm Sunday. It also appeared in our list of Middle Eastern restaurants in W1.

5. Club Mexicana, Mercato Mayfair

St Mark's Church, Mercato Mayfair, W1K 6ZA. Club Mexicana serves entirely meat-free, Mexican-inspired food, built for big flavours rather than health messaging. Its W1 counter is inside Mercato Mayfair, a food hall in the restored St Mark's Church off North Audley Street, so you order and eat at shared tables among the other stalls. It is the most casual and quickest option on this list and the easiest for a mixed group, since everyone else can eat from the neighbouring counters.

How we chose, and what we left out

Every pick had to be inside the W1 postcode, serve a menu that is fully vegan or offers a complete vegan version of every course, and be trading in October 2026 according to its own website. That last test removed more names than it kept. tibits, the Swiss vegetarian buffet that once had a site off Regent Street, closed its London restaurants during the pandemic, and Neat Burger's old domain now leads to a for-sale page. Several Soho favourites from vegan guides of a few years ago no longer have working websites at all, so we have left them out rather than send you to a closed door.

We also left out restaurants that are good for vegans but not built around them. Most of W1's Indian, Middle Eastern and Japanese kitchens have strong vegetable dishes, and our cuisine guides flag the best of them; this list is for places where you do not have to ask.

Tips for eating vegan in W1

  • Book Gauthier and Tendril. Both are small and busy in the evenings, especially Thursday to Saturday. Mildreds and Bubala are easier to walk into at lunchtime.
  • Use Mildreds for breakfast. It opens at 9am every day, which makes it the one vegan sit-down breakfast on this list.
  • Pair dinner with an evening out. Mildreds, Bubala and Gauthier are all a few minutes from the theatres on Shaftesbury Avenue; see our West End theatre guide and Soho guide.
  • Shopping day? Tendril is the closest to Oxford Circus and Club Mexicana the closest to Bond Street; our Oxford Street shopping guide and Carnaby Street guide cover the rest of the day.
